One factory coats small, changing batches. Other coats the same component families throughout the day. Should both invest in a conveyorised powder coating plant?
Not necessarily. The right decision depends on production volume, component movement and the timing each process requires.
What Is a Conveyorised Powder Coating Plant?
In a conveyorised powder coating line, components move along a planned route between coating stages, often on an overhead conveyor. The arrangement may connect pretreatment, drying, powder application and curing.
This reduces repeated manual transfers. However, conveyor movement alone does not make every operation automatic. Loading, unloading or spraying may still involve operators.
When Does Conveyorised Flow Make Sense?
Conveyorisation is particularly useful for steady production volumes, repeated component families and jobs that can follow a defined route.
It can support predictable movement and reduce manual handling between stages. But where quantities are low, product types change frequently or parts require very different processing times, a batch or more flexible arrangement may be better.
The question is whether the production mix can sustain a consistent flow.
How Does Conveyor Speed Affect the Process?
Conveyor speed influences how long components remain within each connected section.
For example, a 30-metre oven section at 2 metres per minute provides 15 minutes of residence time. That does not automatically mean the coating is cured. The component must reach the required temperature and meet the powder manufacturer’s cure schedule.
Hanger spacing also affects potential parts per hour.
That is why line speed, oven design, booth capacity and pretreatment requirements need to be considered together.
What Should Buyers Check?
Before finalising an automatic powder coating plant, review:
- Largest component dimensions, weight and hanging method
- Current and future parts-per-hour requirements
- Product variety and colour-change frequency
- Pretreatment needs and powder cure schedule
- Building height, conveyor routing and loading areas
- Whether each process stage supports the planned throughput
How Intech Plans Conveyorised Coating Lines
Intech manufactures complete powder coating plant systems and offers conveyor options suited to different handling requirements, including Aerorail, Transrail, Megarail and Free Rail.
Its powder coating plants bring conveyor selection together with pretreatment, application and oven planning.

A conveyorised plant makes sense when it supports the way a factory actually produces, not simply because automation is available.
